This week Reverend Jack will read from Luke 3.
15 “As the people were filled with expectation, and all were questioning in their hearts concerning John, whether he might be the Messiah,[a] 16 John answered all of them by saying, “I baptize you with water; but one who is more powerful than I is coming;” (Luke 3:15, 16). The Jews were waiting for their Messiah and John seemed like a match but he was the forerunner…There were over 60 prophesies that had to come true to qualify the Messiah as real. He would have to somehow be sin-free yet be a curse at the same time. This was a curious qualifier but right down to the minutest detail Jesus did it. To a Jew, a person was considered cursed if they hung on a tree and since their method of capital punishment was stoning, this had to be worked around. During the time of Jesus’ life on Earth, the Romans had adopted the Persian’s archaic method of crucifixion from 522 B.C. and thus Jesus was nailed to a cross made of wood and died suspended from a tree making Him “cursed.” It says in Galatians 3:13 “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.” So God waited just for the right time to work all the prophesies into place for one appointed, perfect time. That may be what is going in your life right now, while you wait…
Have a beautiful weekend my friends.
