Comber St. Andrew’s United Church
WEDDING POLICY
We are happy that you have chosen to be married in our church. Be assured that we will seek to make your wedding meaningful and joyful. It is our prayer that God’s blessings will be abundant in your relationship as husband and wife beginning with the wedding service. We offer the following suggestions and policies for your guidance.
YOUR MARRIAGE
Weddings conducted by our Pastoral Minister, either in our sanctuary or elsewhere are Christian Worship Services. Before witnesses, we ask God’s blessing on your consenting to be husband and wife. Your marriage will reflect both what you as individuals bring into the marriage and our Christian faith as well. Our minister will consult with you on the details of your wedding.
For those NOT desiring a religious service, inquiry should be made at the Municipal Office or Court House.
PLEASE NOTE: Our Pastoral Minister will not be available for weddings during some times of the year. These times may include: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Holy Week, Good Friday, Easter weekend, minister’s vacation and Continuing Education time and regular meetings of the Church Courts.
PREMARITAL INTERVIEWS
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE - meet with the Minister to set the time and date of the wedding. You are advised to plan early, especially planning the day and time of your wedding and reception. Couples being married by the Pastoral Minister of Comber St. Andrew’s United Church are required to participate in pre-marriage counselling sessions with the minister or in a pre-marriage course approved by the minister.
THE CHURCH STAFF
The church staff will seek to assist you in any way possible to ensure that your marriage service proceeds and with dignity.
CONFETTI
Confetti or other similar articles are NOT to be brought into or used in the church. The bride and groom are urged to make this clear to their guests. Bubbles are a good substitute.
CHURCH DECORATIONS
NOTE: Worship decorations in the sanctuary may NOT be removed.
Flower arrangements, unity candles and/or pew bows are the responsibility of the couple. If you are planning to place these items in the church you may do so the night of the rehearsal (usually the night before the wedding) or during the day prior to the time of the service. The couple are also responsible for removal of the decorations, immediately following the ceremony.
FLOWERS
Only the flowers used for decorating the church should be sent to the church. Have the florist/decorator call the church office administrator to arrange a time for the delivery of the flowers and other decorations. (519-687-3174)
MUSIC
We do not have organists available for weddings, therefore, you will have to find musical accompaniment for your special day.
PHOTOGRAPHY
To keep the solemnity of your wedding service, as well as to protect your designated photographer, no photographs will be taken during the wedding service. The minister will announce this near the beginning of the service. Please ask your chosen photographer to consult with the minister for advice prior to the wedding.
VIDEOTAPING
Couples are encouraged to videotape both the rehearsal and the wedding service. Your videographer should check with the minister for permission as to where to set up.
THE REHEARSAL
The rehearsal is usually held the night before the wedding. Alternate arrangements may be made dependent upon the availability of the Minister and the Church.
Those present should be: the bride, the groom, all attendants, the ushers, parents of both the bride and groom, musicians, soloists and the minister.
NOTE: if you are using the services of a wedding planner, their services end at the church door.
FEES
Please contact the church office (519-687-3174) for the list of the Wedding fees as part of our Wedding Policy.
